7 Ways To Make Your Under Eyes Brighter Without Makeup

They say the eyes are the window of our soul, but for some of us they are the most problematic area on our face. I'm talking under eyes, not the under eyes of teenagers or even 20 something year olds. But the day you look in the mirror and say to yourself "hmm! something is looking different, and I am definitely not liking it."

Have you ever looked at older photos and just thought to yourself, geez if I only appreciated that fuller face when I had it? Well I certainly do, aging rarely is kind to any of us, and if we hadn't started taking care of our skin in our teen years, well when the early 30's creep up, we start seeing the repercussions of it.

BUT...is it possible to turn back the clock? To decrease under eye darkness, fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes, or even increase new collagen production under the eyes?

Well, today I'm going to give you my 7 TIPS on what I do to help with under eyes and all that comes with it as we age.

7 TIPS FOR YOUNGER LOOKING UNDER EYES

  1. SUNSCREEN

Yes I know I've said it before and I'll say it again, but your number one defence from aging your face is wearing Sunscreen. So that also means applying it around the eye area, after you moisturize, it should be your last step in your skincare routine in the morning and before applying your makeup. My only advice when applying your SPF to your eye area is to:

A. Be gentle, the eye area is the most delicate skin area on your face so you don't want to be rough when applying. Apply as if you are applying your eye cream, light touch and patting it into the delicate skin area.

B. Let the SPF after applied to your face set for at least ten minutes before going out in the sun or applying your makeup.

My go to for years now has been Miracle10 SPF

This broad-spectrum chemical sunscreen creates a UVA and UVB shield that will safeguard the skin against sun damage. What's even better? This SPF 45 gives your skin a healthy glow with zero whitecast, making it perfect for all skin tones.

2. WEAR A HAT

Just as Sunscreen is important while your out in the Sun, a Hat and Sunglasses are also gonna be that much as important in decreasing the possibility of those sun damaging rays to enter your skin and cause wrinkles and discolouration around the eyes. So make sure to find some hats you can wear while you're out and about for extra protection for your eyes. #imfancy

3. H20

Loss of volume in our face doesn't only happen with age, remember that 60% of our body is made up of water. So if you are seriously dehydrated, your body's tissues will start to shrink, including your skin and the delicate tissue under the eye.

Now if you are on the bandwagon of drinking 8+ glasses of water a day, it could be the other beverages you indulge in that may be the culprit.

Caffeine, Alcohol, and other diuretics may lead to dehydration and require even more water to recover from. So cut those out as much as possible and start filling up on that good ol' H20.

4. SLEEP

Here is another fairly well-known cause of dark under-eye circles. And, unlike the age-related loss of volume, this can happen to anyone that is seriously lacking sleep. Study's have shown that it always helps to sleep at the same time every evening so that your own body's circadian rhythm can get used to a regular schedule and prevent insomnia. Sleep irregularities can lead eyes to become dark and/or baggy as a reflection of a hectic schedule and irregular sleep cycle.

5. EAT A HEALTY DIET

First and foremost, drink lots of water to keep your system hydrated and promote regular elimination. But,

EAT THE RAINBOW! Eating foods that are rich in antioxidants like berries, nuts, and dark green vegetables will help support healthy skin. Also looking for omega-rich foods like salmon, avocado, and walnuts that will support a healthy skin barrier, which will help prevent water loss. Collagen boosting foods like bone broth are also amazing for a heathy skin diet.

6. TRY MICRONEEDLING

When done properly and under the care of a qualified skincare professional, Microneedling can produce great results that help promote the penetration of beneficial ingredients and encourage collagen production. Microneedling helps tighten, plump, and retexturize the skin, ultimately reducing the visible signs of under-eye wrinkles and dark circles.
